Google releases remote desktop function for Chrome

Google has announced the addition of a beta version of a new remote desktop function to its Chrome browser.

Remote Desktop

The new Chrome Remote Desktop beta version extension was released on Friday and is intended to allow Chrome users to access another computer remotely.

Google explained, “Chrome Remote Desktop BETA is fully cross-platform, so you can connect any two computers that have a Chrome browser, including Windows, Linux, Mac, and Chromebooks.”

Remote desktop access is a useful tool that many businesses are opting to use as a means of helping IT administrators manage a number of employees’ computers from a single access point. The facility is also useful for remote workers who need to log on to access corporate resources when outside the office – providing a truly mobile solution.

Hosted desktop solutions, often known as SaaS, help businesses to ensure they have the very best and most up to date IT facilities on a basis that allows them to pay only for what they use.

Google’s announcement comes ahead of the 9th Cloud Expo in California’s Silicon Valley, where many of the most influential people in the cloud computing industry gather to discuss future trends. The event takes place on 7-11 November 2011.
